Now this is a story I could get behind. The characters were decently interesting, although the main queer couple felt a bit hollow and superficial. M had more chemistry with that old lady than they did LOL. The ending, however, felt a little bit oh wait we should probably make this into a good ending
, aka, very rushed and did not exactly fit with the story. They could have made the ending work, perhaps, say, if they showed Maura still mourning the loss of her sister while coming to terms with having M around. It just felt like Ai went from Hating to Loving M in the blink of the Ai (heh get my pun?) without any actual character development. *yes see?! this character developed!! wanna know how? UPPERCUT, SUCKER*

Heavily dissapointed. This had the chance to be cool. Maybe I need to stop reading comics because I think I'm a slow burn type of person. BUT ALSO a lot of the endings to these short stories made GENUINELY NO SENSE? I don't know if I'm stupid, but I sat there and was like.... what led to this resolution? These definitely could be cool if they were fleshed out into actual stories, but right now they seem like thumbnail ideas for a soon-to-be project. Extra star for the art though, that was gorgeous.

Maybe I'm being critical on purpose, but I think the pacing may have been weird- honestly I don't remember, I'm adding this to the library almost 10 days after reading it. Interesting story, it just didn't really stand out.

A very unique set of characters who somehow work together to create a slightly disfunctional band. As the back of the cover says: Aksel perfectionist front man with a stutter...Lily keyboardist looking for a break... Kervinen bassist who's been around the block a few hundred times...Bear the drummer...Aydin pizza-delivery guy with a voice that'll give you visions...
The dialogue is cleverly humorous. A fantastic read. The character designs are also something worth beholding; they are very pleasing to look at and, despite the vast differences in everyone's personality, make for a very cohesive and beautifully rendered comic!

This was my first introduction to Junji Ito, and to be plainly honest, I was a little dissappointed because I've heard great things. I think his illustration and writing style probably thrives in full length stories. A lot of these felt underdeveloped and somewhat lackluster, but that's probably due to the length rather than the story itself. However I did find the dialogue extremely drab and "no shit sherlock"ish. Maybe that's the byproduct of 'Alley' being a work in translation. However, Junji Ito is a fantastic artist! Even if all the characters look exactly the same! hah who am I kidding I'm just as guilty of same face syndrome
as I kept reading, the stories grew on me. maybe there's some charming juxtaposition between the uncanny plain-ness of the dialogue and the unsettling imagery. It definitely does elicit a very specific type of ambiance. His works definitely seem like they're more for the sake of art rather than storytelling, if you catch my drift. I would give his other stories a chance

Clashy character design fun DND type evil-turned-good plot. Just fun! nothing much more to say!

It's a typical waking-up-3-years-in-the-past-after-falling-down-the-stairs manga high school plot... with randomly a huge focus on Japanese Ouendan (which I originally didn't know about at first). It's honestly an anticlimactic plot, but hey sometimes a slice of life like that is entertaining. Also I am obsessed with the cover art and Imamura's long-haired design TwT

Tropey in the cringey way. Flat characters. The twink is a twink. The other guy is buff and #sexyvampire. My friend has read this book 20+ times and swears by it, so read it if you want I suppose. The concept of battle skating is pretty cool though. Oh also there is a lot of (covered) butt in this comic. lol
